CWG opening ceremony

Anyhow how saw the CWG opening ceremony yesterday would agree it was a brilliant show.  It was a visual treat that no body could criticize. This may sound crony but even though it was not the Olympics, it did match to the Chinese Olympic opening ceremony.

What I liked more was the creativity used. The colors, the lights, the fireworks, the musics were all perfectly synchronized. The henna painting by school children was very interesting. I am sure a lot of effort and coordination went into it and for once someone paid attention to details. All the credit for this show goes to Bharat Bala who I am sure had the enviable task of designing this and t the same time navigating though the politics and corruption.

The whole show cost Rs 400 Crs. (Approx $100M) and the much touted helium areoflot itself was Rs 70 Crs ($15M). I understand national pride, the need to promote sports as well as leaving a mark on the world stage. But I really question the need for spending this much of money on a 3 hour show.

In a country as poor as ours, could not this money be spent in getting every child a bicycle, building  world class sports facility every dsictrict, build a gym in very government school.

In the mean time sit and enjoy a truly inspiring show.
